The Shade Sail is usually used to cover oneself from sun when outdoors in places like parks and open picnicking spots. Its name is derived from their counterparts used on boats and yachts, although for different uses. Now, mostly they are used for their aesthetic sense because now boats are powered by fuel engine and do not rely on the wind for their power. In the moist places where rainfall is abundant, the Shade Sail is also used for shielding against the rains.

The Shade Sail was thought to become popular 25 years ago when the Australians first started using them on a commercial basis. But historical records reveal that these Shade Sail have been used much longer than preciously thought. The Egyptians had been using single sheet fabrics to shield themselves from the harsh Saharan sun. The Greeks followed suit by installing a large shade sail of fabric over the Colosseum crowd. This fabric needed installation which involved large manpower for their installation.

What distinguishes the modern fabric in the Shade Sail from their older counterparts is that the newer ones are manufactured from artificial fibre. The older fabrics were made of naturally occurring cotton and it is common knowledge that the Egyptian economy was rich in cotton production. Fabric is being made of material like Polyethylene. This fabric was originally implemented in this field in Australia. The shade sail fabric offers protection from the ultra harmful Ultra Violet rays. The fabrics are relatively porous and allow the user to remain cool even in warm weather. The Shade Sail have become very popular in temperate places like Australia and South Africa. Its installation is mandatory in places like schools and restaurants.

Only the function may not lure a customer to buy a product. But, if the same thing is styled better, then the chances are more that the customer might buy it. This is applicable here too. The Shade Sail are available in different shapes, sizes and colours. The shapes of the Shade Sail may vary from triangles to polygons.

The Shade Sail can be installed in different ways. Anyhow the installation is done; tension is always an important factor in its installation. The tension can be increased by either using a turnbuckle or by using a set of pulleys. A turnbuckle is a better option to utilize than a pulley system as it is capable of supplying more tension to the Shade Sail it is attached to. The turnbuckle is a more permanent installation and a pulley system is more portable than the turnbuckle.

The private sector is always increasing the competition for the already established companies and for the newer manufacturers. But, one needs to be very cautious about the material used in these products and their grades.
